Medical Missions

Since 2025, NK SEEDS has launched a new solidarity initiative: large-scale medical missions in the rural and remote areas of Laos, where access to healthcare remains extremely limited.

 

Each mission aims to provide free medical care to the most isolated populations, while also carrying out preventive and health education activities, especially in schools.

A Committed and Multidisciplinary Team

Over a period of about two weeks, a team of around 25 French and Lao volunteer healthcare professionals — including general practitioners, dentists, opticians, chiropractors, gynecologists, and translators — offer a comprehensive range of medical services, including:

  • General medicine

  • Dental care

  • Eye exams and distribution of glasses

  • Chiropractic care

  • Gynecology

  • Basic nursing care

  • Health education and awareness

A Lasting Impact

During each mission, more than 2,000 people receive care. Beyond the immediate medical support, these efforts aim to reduce untreated health conditions and improve long-term health knowledge within local communities.

The missions also help strengthen the capacities of local health structures through:

  • Donations of medical equipment

  • Knowledge-sharing between Lao and international medical professionals

These actions are carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and partner hospitals, in direct response to locally identified needs.

What Happens After? A Long-Term Commitment

Following our medical missions, NK SEEDS remains actively involved in supporting the most complex cases that cannot be treated locally due to the lack of adequate infrastructure or medical equipment.

 

Some patients require specialized interventions in better-equipped hospitals. To give them a real chance at recovery, we organize their transfer to hospitals in Vientiane (the capital) or Luang Prabang, where they can receive vital, advanced care.

 

Examples of treatments include:

  • Cleft lip and palate surgeries

  • Spina bifida care

  • Goiter removal

  • Genital prolapse correction

In March 2025, over a dozen patients benefited from this exceptional support program, which covers not only medical and surgical costs, but also transportation, accommodation, and patient support. These life-changing operations have had a profound impact on the lives of the patients and their families, offering them a more hopeful future.

This post-mission work reflects our commitment to long-term impact, with ongoing medical and human support well beyond the initial care provided in the field.
