NK English Corner/Ma led phan Library: A Learning Space Open to All
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve access to education in the Muang Ngoi district, we have developed Ma led phan Library — a free and welcoming space dedicated to learning English.
After five years of teaching in Nong Khiaw, we noticed a growing enthusiasm among young people for the English language. Mad led phan Library was born from this energy: it is a free and accessible space designed to support students and community members eager to improve their English through reading, conversation, and fun educational activities.
A Space for Knowledge and Sharing
In Laos, access to reading remains very limited, especially in rural areas, due to the lack of educational resources and libraries. To address this gap, we work in collaboration with local organizations such as Big Brother Mouse and My Library, providing books adapted to all age groups.
We have also developed English-Lao vocabulary books, designed by NK SEEDS, which students can borrow for free and take home to continue learning. In addition, we provide English educational games to make the experience interactive and engaging.
A Lively and Interactive Environment
Ma led phan Library is more than just a library:
It is a space for exchange, connection, and inspiration.
Every weekday from 4 PM to 6 PM, the space is open to all for:

Reading English books

Playing educational games

Joining English-language workshops and discussions

Interacting with foreign visitors and other learners
We regularly organize reading clubs, group games, debates, and other educational activities to strengthen the language and social skills of participating youth.
A Bridge Between Travelers and Local Youth
Ma led phan Library is also a flexible and inclusive volunteer space.
It is open to:

All young Lao people who want to improve their English in a safe, friendly setting

All passing travelers who wish to share their skills and time with the local community, even for a short period
No formal experience is required — only a willingness to share, listen, and support learning through meaningful dialogue.
